FIFA World Cup!

The world cup started this morning. I am writing this while watching my MEXICO take on South Africa. (South Africa just scored in the 55th minute. The best part of the goal was the dance South Africa did after!). Mexico's Giovani Dos Santos is by far my favorite player today. :)

My last post was about soccer and here is another. I LOVE watching soccer. I love being crazy about a team. I love how the entire WORLD is going crazy over soccer and we are ALL watching these games. I wish that the US got more into soccer. It is such a beautiful sport and the world stops to watch it.

The best thing about this next week is that the Finals and the World Cup are both going on! Soccer by morning, my Lakers by night. Now, this is summer!! Waking up early and staying up late, all for the love of watching games.

RSL love

I grew up playing soccer but sort of lost my love for it once high school came around. My love for soccer was rekindled 2 summers ago as I studied in Mexico. Our good friend introduced us to Atlas and none of us really had a chance to like any other team. Watching Atlas play is Estadio Jalisco was amazing and one of my favorite things that we did in Mexico (I know, I have a pathetic love for sports).

So, I came back for my Junior year at BYU and Aubrey's dad started working with Real Salt Lake. That obviously meant I had to support Aubrey in supporting her dad and accompanying her to many games. Last season RSL took the MLS Cup against the LA Galaxy. The game was in Seattle. I was listening to it on the radio and got home just in time to run up and watch the shootout! It was amazing.

Last night a lot of things were happening:
  1. We took on the Galaxy again, who has been undefeated so far this year.
  2. It was a celebration for Mel's birthday.
  3. This was my last game with Aubrey before she moves out to New York to start grown up life.
  4. AND after the game, David Cook was going to be playing.
We WON! The concert was SO fun! It was just an overall WONDERFUL night.

BEE Winners? Ya, radio stations were all over us.

my crazy weekend

The MWC basketball tournament was in Vegas this weekend - and like always, I was there. We (Me, Aubrey and Mel) left Friday night and got to Vegas around midnight. We stayed with a friend for the night and then thanks to Josh and Rosie, we went to the Planet Hollywood Towers and hung out by the pool. I got some sun for sure...

Then we ate In N Out (of course) followed by shopping at the Outlets. The game was fun, but definitely a little depressing. We watched SDSU beat UNM and then we played UNLV. All games this tournament have been really close. The UNLV fans got into a huge fight with each other at one point. That got crazy real fast. Cops came up and everything. Such an experience.

Bummed by the loss, we got in the car right after the game and drove to San Diego. I mean, why not? We were already half way there. We pulled up to my house around 4:00 am and I surprised my family. I ran upstairs to wake up mom who didn't know what was going on at all. She was shocked and the reaction I got from Port and Hannah was even better. They both jumped out of bed to get me. Oh how I love being loved.

Saturday we slept in, watched the classic Thorkelson tv shows (The Middle and Community) and then went for a walk on the pier. I never forget how beautiful home is but it always takes my breath away.

After lunch at In N Out, the girls and I drove up to Long Beach to watch the BYU men's volleyball play in a tournament. I know - I sound like an obsessive crazy. I am only sort of that. They just happened to be nearby and it is my last year, so why not get it all in now? Doesn't sound so crazy after all huh? :)

I was home for exactly 27 hours - the next morning we woke up and drove back to Provo (stopping in St. George for, of course, In N Out). Back with the snow and mountains and everything. Pretty, but nothing like home.

So - - - - Friday in Vegas, Saturday in San Diego, Sunday driving back to Provo - stopping for In N Out all three days. What a weekend.

it's so crazy right nowwwww

* Do you even know what is happening at the end of the week?!

MWC Tournament in VEGAS!

* Do you know who will be there?!

ME! and the rest of my fanatic friends.

This is my last year as a student (because I graduate next month!) and so this has to be the year we become tournament champs.

These pictures represent my life over the last semester - the basketball part of it has been wonderful (minus the UNM game).

Taking it on the road and winning :)

Party in the tent - morning of

Last night of camping for the season

still bleeding blue and white

We lost. This is the first time in my career as a Cougar that our men's basketball team did not take Conference Champs.

I cried (just a little...) when Miles said "Lights" and the sheets came down and I watched clips of amazing basketball with Jimmer, Emery, Miles, Tav, Haws, Hartsock, my whole team! It was such a thrill. The screaming. The chanting. The PACKED Marriott. Even the seated side of the Marriott was on their feet.

We lost by two. I left the Marriott feeling sick to my stomach and my heart was broken once again. This was much more emotional than the end of football.

I don't know how to really describe it all, but...

despite sounding like a total crazy, I love BYU basketball.

Camp Cougar

Have I told you that we put our tent up LAST Tuesday (as in 8 days ago!) for the game today and on Saturday?! Well, believe it, because it happened/is happening.

I spent yesterday late afternoon/evening in the tent. It is surprisingly super fun and not as crazy as you all think it is. I got to watch some of the boys practice with Robby and Eric. Then Robby plugged in all the gear (we had to move our tent for devotionaland had just moved it back). The gear consists of a wii, Nintendo 64, Rock Band, basic cable, a heater, a little lamp to hang from the top of the tent...it's the greatest set up I have ever seen. I really want to watch a scary movie in the tent one night.

We played SDSU tonight. I really don't like SDSU so it is always fun to beat them. Plus my favorite BLAKE BEHNKE came and found me at half time. That so made my day, my week even! I had not been so excited to be surprised by someone for so long. It was great. But Blake, writing this has made me realize that we have not a single picture together! I thought we were better friends than that! Overall, a totally bomb night!

And this is why camping is so worth it!

I'm really just a normal girl who does crazy things for BYU balll

I got a text yesterday that said, (drum roll please)

"Tents are up!"

That's right! I know, I know - 10 days before a game!? Definitely.

Our next home game in in one week against SDSU. I am not SDSU's biggest fan in any way, so I can't wait to see us kill them. Then a week from Saturday we play UNM, the one team inour conference currently ranked higher than us. Don't worry - we're going to change that one for sure. Camping out for these games is going to be tons of fun and...

I know you're at least a little bit jealous.

BYU takes utah down

Yesterday marked my third year camping out for the BYU vs. Utah game. LOVED IT! Always have loved it and always will love it.

Year 1
Year 2
Year 3

Basketball becomes my life in the winter and I am sad that this was my final BYU vs Utah game in the Marriott - at least as a student. We pretty much joined forces with everyone we have met through basketball over the last 3 years and the group we camped with was amazing. They are my crazy basketball fanatic friends and it has been so much fun.

THE GAME - boy we dominated in the beginning, leading by 18! Then somehow in the second half they closed it down to just a four point lead. Everyone was going crazy. It got really heated when Jackson got a foul and was hit by Henderson. Very obviously a rivalry game, but it was exhausting! I came home and pretty much crashed on Aubrey's couch. Such a good weekend.

"Silly things do cease to be silly if they are done by sensible people in an impudent way." - Emma

Alison came home from institute this weekend and told me that it was wonderful. She then told me that someone asked the following question:
"When do we tell the Lord what we want and when do we tell Him that we are going to allow His will to be done?"
Someone responded that even Christ said to the Lord, "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt" (Matthew 26:39). Christ told the Lord what it was that He desired, but then He continued with full knowledge that He would do as the Lord desires.

Of course the Lord is all knowing. He already knows the desires of our hearts but He wants us to council with him in all things, including that which we want. We just have to be acceptant and willing to do what he sends our way because He knows best. This has been on my mind a lot recently as I have dealt with heartbreak and my fear of the future. There are some things I want more than others, but then I want to do the right thing so I, more than ever, want to be guided by Heavenly Father.

I am currently watching Emma on PBS and Raymond just took our trash out and remembered my baby Berto. What a good Sunday :)

ALSO - I have my first SET tomorrow. That means my principal comes in and evaluates me. Ahh I am so nervous.

ANOTHER ALSO - my group already has a tent outside of the Marriott for Saturday's game against the U! I love basketball and the crazy it brings out in me and all the friends it has put in my path. :)

Lucky Me

What a great weekend.

Friday night...I had a date! haha A real date.

Then Saturday was absolutely wonderful. I woke up and was pretty down. I called my mom, who is so amazing by the way. She got me out of bed and before I knew it, I was driving up to see Grandma and Michelle. We shopped and went to lunch and it was so much fun, just like I was a freshman again.

Then my SAB friend Lori told me she had an extra ticket to the volleyball game and wanted me to go with her! I told you that these SAB ladies are quality. So now I had plans for the rest of the evening.

After lunch with Michelle and Grandma, I ran home and then went up to the Marriott with Preston to wait in line with our fabulous basketball fanatic fans. I had courtside tickets so I really didn't need to wait in line, but that is part of the experience. Plus, it got me out of the house. I just love basketball. I know, you are all confused...she went with Preston? Well, we are friends. I am pretty sure I will be at most basketball games with him. And it is totally ok so please don't worry. Michelle was a little late so I went down and got the buffet from TUCANOS! that comes with those tickets, all by myself. Being on the court for a game! Amazing. We totally dominated.

Right after the game, Preston and I went over to the Fieldhouse for the volleyball game. I had a ticket with Lori. Lori has made my life so much easier this weekend. I don't think she knows how much her sweet words and actions mean to me. Plus it is always fun to see all of my old friends. Then Aubrey and Mel called and they somehow found the best seats and had one for me. I went and sat with them and I had so much fun. I forgot the noises I used to make. I forgot how excited I got when I was with those girls, my best friends. How silly of me to forget that everything I needed to pick me up was just two doors away.

Then we went to YoZone and just laughed and laughed. That was all I needed.

Now it is Sunday and no school tomorrow! Love it.

COUGAR VICTORY!!!

Yesterday, was a HUGE day for BYU basketball. The Cougars defeated those Utes 63-50. It was some comeback after the half and I sure am happy to be such a fan!

<----This was Friday night. I was wearing spandex and sweats under those jeans with 4 pairs of socks. I even went home and put Aubrey's UGGs on. I wish you could have seen the line of tents behind us. We counted 49 tents at about 7ish Friday night. The tents literally went halfway around the Marriott and I am sure it got even longer. I know that by Saturday the line did wrap around the Marriott and turned to go up the street. CRAZY. I was so happy we were in the front. A wait well worth it. Aubrey and I hung around with our friends and tent until about 1 Friday morning when we happily went home to get some sleep in :) We took Thursday night in the tent and we went to the Draper Temple open house Saturday morning. At one point we had speakers out and we were blasting music. Yes, dance party! Some girl walked by and even called us "the fun tent". We played like a million rounds of Nertz, drank delicious 7-11 hot chocolate, had a bbq...I mean, we did everything!
GAME DAY. We were so anxious to get in!

4th ROW!!

COSMO LOVE: so Cosmo came and joined us for a little bit. I got all sorts of attacked/mauled. No joke - I think he watched the game with us for 5 minutes. We screamed and jumped and enjoyed the game with our favorite cosmo the cougar.

Now, if you did not see the game, let it be known that the Cougars won!!

rise and shout, the Cougars are out...
